November

Liquidamber Moraine

LIQUIDAMBER styraciflua  ---  'Moraine'

A superb shade, lawn or park tree. It grows into an upright-oval with medium branch structure and excellent glossy foliage with brilliant red color in fall. Proven to be the most cold hardy form.

Companion Plants

These plants will complement this month's featured plant very nicely and make excellent companions in the mixed border or landscape.

EUPHORBIA amygaloides 'Rubra'
Purple Spurge

Neat 12" upright bushes of purple leaves are evergreen! and topped with bright yellow bracts in May-June. Spectacular winter interest plant for foliage color.
Zone 5

PICEA pungens 'R.H. Montgomery'
Montgomery Spruce

A slow growing dwarf blue spruce that begins as a dense globe, slowly becoming a broad pyramid. Can be a beautiful specimen in the conifer garden.
Zone 3

RHODODENDRON 'PJM Black Satin'
A new PJM hybrid, whose deep rosepink flowers in early spring contrast fabulously with the shiny coal-black winter foliage. An added bonus to this wonderful plant is the fragrance of the foliage makes it distasteful to deer. Compact, upright habit. Great winter interest plant. Try planting it behind and Ilex verticillata or a yellow form of Chamaecyparis. Incredible!
