A National Arboretum introduction, distinguished by its velvety-maroon, fine textured spring foliage. A maroon tinge is retained through the summer, and the foliage turns bright red in the fall, with red fruit. White sterile flowers ring maroon buds, in flat-topped cymes. Forms a globose shrub 6 feet high and wide. A great selection.

Magnolia x. Loebneri 'Leonard Messel'
A form of star Magnolia whose flower petals are flushed a lovely soft pink. Upright growth to 25' and quite broad. Blooms in late April.

This is the much sought after cultivar with lovely pale pink bells. Very rare and choice. Grows into a beautiful small tree, similar in habit to a dogwood.

RHODODENDRON 'Llenroc'

A hardly, small-leafed variety with lovely, soft pink and yellow flowers in May. The "mother" plant in our garden always gets rave reviews when in bloom! MALUS 'Molten Lava'

A wide spreading weeping form to 10 feet with attractive yellow bark in winter. Deep red flowers open white, with red-orange fruits from late summer into December. Highly resistant to diseases.

Halesia carolina
A very beautiful medium sized tree, usually up to 30-40 feet, with clusters of white, bell-shaped flowers dangling from the branches in May. Attractive bark is very smooth, a dark gray with lighter streaks.
Also look for H. monticola, native to the mountains of North Carolina & Georgia. It grows a bit larger than H. carolina with large white bells, a conical habit and rounded head. H. monticola 'Rosea' is a selection that stops visitors to the nursery in their tracks when in bloom. A showy specimen that makes a stunning statement.
