Wintercreeper Euonymus
Euonymus fortunei
Zones 4 to 9Description: The sunny yellow of this variegated euonymus lights up the darkest winter day. Adaptable, indestructible euonymus can be grown as a groundcover or be allowed to climb. Root-like projections allow it to cling to any surface. It can also be pruned into a low hedge. Variegated forms are iffy in Zone 4 without reliable snow cover, otherwise Euonymus fortunei and its many cultivars are trouble-free, hardy plants. Regrettably, they are favorites of deer and should not be used where populations are high.
Requirements: An amiable, easy-to-grow plant with a wide tolerance of soil conditions, euonymous thrives in either full sun or heavy shade. For the most colorful variegation, plant in sun.
