For the brightest color on your red & yellow dogwood twigs, remove the oldest stems by cutting them back to the ground. You can remove up to 1/3rd of the plant’s stems to keep your plant fresh with new juvenile growth. Prune back just before the leaves emerge in spring. You can also cut the plant back in height by 13/rd as well. This will keep it compact, under control and yield better color on the new growth.
